We have caterpillars in the classroom and we have been watching their growth and development. We are looking forward to see them turn into butterflies. We have read, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, by Eric Carle and have been writing our own stories using this structure.
We have written some acrostic poems and haikus about different flowers. You can see these on display in our classroom.
We have set up a worm world in the classroom too and we have been watching the worms ‘tunneling’ in the soil.
In Maths we are continuing to develop our number work and we have been doing work on measure and information handling, making cross-curricular links with our Gardens and Minibeasts Topic.
We have a Garden Centre and café role-play area set up in the classroom which is also helping us develop our money skills.
P.E. is on a Wednesday with Mrs. Reid and on a Friday with Mrs. Shepherd this term. We are focusing on Orienteering, Athletics, Fitness, Co-ordination and Team Skills. We are also developing our knowledge of making healthy choices by investigating the range of foods available and discussing how they contribute to
a healthy diet.
As part of our work to maintain our level 2 Rights Respecting School award, we are focusing on the UNCRC articles 12, 28, 29 and 31 this term, in line with our class charter.
In RME this term we have looked at the Christian and the Hindu creation stories. We are going to be looking at the Islamic creation story too. We have also continued looking at parables – we read about the Parable of the Sower in connection with growing as part of our topic.
We are continuing to consolidate our greetings, colours and numbers in French.
